The doctor who completes this course will be able to:

(1) provide personal, comprehensive and continuing care for the pregnant woman in the background of her family and environment, during the antenatal period, labour and post natal period, to ensure the arrival of a healthy baby at labour, and to care for the newborn with special attention to feeding and preventive care.

(2) Examine, investigate and manage all those who seek gynaecological help.

(3) In instances (1) and (2) recognise the need for specialized attention or hospital treatment and initiate referral when necessary.
